Southeastern Dentals’ previous building was cramped and dimly lit, with artificial lighting and very few windows. For the new building, the design team’s primary design goal was to create a bright and airy space that produced a calm and soothing patient experience. Purposefully placed expansive windows were used to provide an abundance of natural daylight and visual connections to the outdoors, making treatment rooms feel larger and more relaxing. The exterior building skin intentionally folds over the glazing in critical areas where the glass needs to be protected from glare and unwanted heat gain. Indirect lighting was integrated into the design of the treatment rooms to reduce glare and create a more comfortable patient environment. A subtle color palate blended with warm natural materials was used to further enhance the relaxing patient experience.
