Meet the Team: Mitch Schlingman

Our team just keeps on growing!  We’d like to introduce you to recent SDSU graduate, Mitch Schlingman!  He’s no stranger to our office as he interned at RSA last summer, but we are beyond excited to have him on full-time now as our newest Architectural Designer.  Read on to get to know a little about Mitch:

What is your favorite architectural style?
My favorite architectural style would simply have to be modern architecture, because I enjoy designing with a lot of glazing and steel.

What is your favorite phase of design?
I really enjoy the schematic phase of a design project where you first get to see the design come alive, but my favorite phase would have to be rendering. Creating a “real-life” image of the design is so exciting!

Describe RSA in one word:
Innovative

What is your vision of architecture/interior design 10 years from now?
I see them continuing to be pushed by technology in the future.  Technology has already changed the way architectural designers create buildings [such as] with the help from 3D modeling programs, rendering programs, or even VR headsets.  While still needing the help and knowledge from an actual designer, these professions will advance in how designs will be presented to clients to understand the building before it’s built.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?
By far my favorite thing to do is golf. I’ve been golfing my whole life and I enjoy being out in the sun, exercising, and socializing with people.

What was your latest adventure?
Every year a group of friends and I go on a trip and last August we went to Lake of the Ozarks. We stayed right on the water, rented a boat and visited a few of the lakeside restaurants.

What is your ultimate dream vacation?
My ultimate dream vacation is going to the PGA Master’s golf tournament at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.

Where is your favorite spot in South Dakota?
Hillcrest Golf & Country Club in Yankton, SD will probably be my favorite spot forever, because of the countless memories I’ve made there such as growing up on the course, creating new friendships, working, and playing in tournaments.

What team do you always cheer for?
The best NFL football team, the Denver Broncos.

What is something people might find surprising about you?
I believe pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza.
